The Board of public broadcaster Prasar Bharati today approved a proposal for expansion of television channel Doordarshan’s direct-to-home (DTH) platform to 200 channels by the end of the year.
A Prasar Bharati press release said the Board had also cleared the detailed proposal for an e-auction of channels on the Doordarshan Direct DTH platform.
“This is to be implemented with immediate effect and efforts made to make it operational within a month,” the release said.
Also approved were proposed guidelines for procurement of Hindi feature films for Doordarshan channels as also amendments in guidelines for commissioned programmes.
The Board approved allowing cross channel advertising from other broadcasters and DTH operators on Doordarshan channels.
In a decision of far reaching consequences, the Board also cleared the way for out of court settlements of the more than Rs 400 crore worth of arbitration issues involving Prasar Bharati.
A special high-level negotiating empowered team will take this up on a priority basis.
The Board also considered a large number of administrative issues. It took a series of decisions to smoothen the decision making process.
Appropriate delegation of powers to the officials handling intricate issues were also made to hasten process, the release added.
